Adolescence is an important period of life between childhood and adulthood. During this stage, many physical, emotional, mental, and social changes occur. Proper care during adolescence helps in healthy growth, prevention of anemia, maintenance of personal hygiene, good mental health, prevention of harmful habits, and development of responsible behaviour.

At the end of the health education, adolescents will be able to understand the meaning of adolescence, common changes during adolescence, and importance of personal hygiene, nutrition, mental health, healthy lifestyle, and prevention of harmful habits for maintaining good health.

1. Meaning of Adolescence
Adolescence is the period of life between childhood and adulthood. According to WHO, adolescence is the age group between 10 to 19 years. It is a period of rapid growth, development, maturity, emotional changes, and personality development.
2. Physical Changes During Adolescence
- Rapid increase in height and weight.
- Development of secondary sexual characteristics.
- Growth of hair in underarms and pubic area.
- Voice changes in boys.
- Development of breasts and menstruation in girls.
- Increase in sweating and body odour.
- Acne or pimples may appear due to hormonal changes.
3. Emotional and Psychological Changes
- Mood swings and emotional sensitivity.
- Desire for independence.
- Curiosity about body changes and relationships.
